MANILA, PHILIPPINES — There are some who might find the augmented reality-enriched works at Galeria Paloma’s Un|Tethered, the gallery’s exhibition at the recently concluded Art Fair 2024, rather gimmicky. Those who feel that way may have missed the point.

Transeuntis Mundi is a transmedia artistic project, which includes a set of works in different media. In its exploration of the 360-degree technology, a collection of images portray their narratives, moments and places. They look like photographs, but they are also living works, full of sounds and stories. Each of these images tells one or several “minimal stories”, in their local languages, for a transcultural immersion, including the melody of the languages. Some pieces have accessibility elements as well.

The standstill of the motif seems to imply a continuation and indeed: the artist blurs the boundaries between analogue and digital experience of her œuvre. Imagine an artist who can easily use the digital extension of augmented reality to tell how that work was created, from the first stroke until the artwork is done. Or consider the digital artists who are trapped in an Instagram feed and now through print can come to a gallery or a museum.

Das Wiener Museumsquartier (MQ) macht den Anfang, aber bald soll ganz Österreich klingen. Eine Smartphone-App will "Kultur-Lebensräume mittels innovativer Technologien neu entdecken". Dabei geben Kurz-Clips Einblicke über die jeweiligen Kulturinstitutionen, untermalt von kuratierter Musik. "Ein Erlebnis für alle Sinne!", schwärmte MQ-Direktor Christian Strasser bei der Präsentation.

Das Augmented-Reality-Tool kommt mittlerweile in zahlreichen renommierten Museen zum Einsatz. Zu den Kunden zählen beispielsweise die Wiener Albertina, das Shanghai Himalayas Museum in China, das Belvedere Wien und zuletzt auch das MuseumsQuartier und die Österreich Werbung.

Analoge Kunstwerke mit digitaler Kunst via Augmented Reality verbinden: Daran arbeitet das Wiener Startup Artivive der beiden Gründer Sergiu Ardelean und Codin Popescu seit 2017. Für die Plattform und App haben sie mittlerweile etwa 66.000 Künstler und Kreative gewonnen, die mit AR arbeiten, und wie berichtet hat das Team es 2019 in den Startup-Accelerator der University of California in Berkeley geschafft.

Wie gehabt zieht sich die Ausstellung auch vom Kunstblättersaal hinaus in die Säulenhalle. Neu ist nur die seit dem Vorjahr nützbare App Artivive, die 19 Sujets auf dem Handy oder Tablet zu animierten "Moving Posters" wandelt. Im direkten Kontakt ist jedoch noch einiges mehr zu erkennen, denn während in den Vorjahren oft eine Reduktion auf Schwarzweiß, Schrift und strenge formale Lösungen, selbst beim Einsatz von Fotografien, zu bemerken war, ist heuer viel Farbe, Ornament und Verspieltheit in den meisten Sujets zu finden.

Eine Visitenkarte aus Karton wird zum Leben erweckt – möglich macht das eine App namens Artivive entwickelt vom gleichlautenden Wiener Start Up, dass bei den ersten Creative Days Vienna im Reaktor in Hernals mit dabei ist. Der Workshop von Artitive ist nur einer von mehreren, die im Rahmen der Creative Days noch bis Freitagabend stattfinden. Auch Storytelling, also das Geschichtenerzählen im digitalen Zeitalter - sei es im Film, auf der Bühne oder bei Events - ist Thema. Zusätzlich finden im Rahmen der ersten Creative Days Vienna Vorträge, Touren und Workshops statt. Organisiert wurde das Event von „Departure“, der Kreativabteilung der Wirtschaftsagentur Wien.

Take for instance, the Belvedere Museum’s approach to commemorating the 100 year anniversary of artist Ego Schiele’s death. To celebrate the artist, his entire works underwent extensive and detailed documentation. The results of that work? With a tap of a button, visitors to the museum can view the paintings in several ways. They include under UV light, infrared reflectography, microscopic and macroscopic analysis, and even through x-rays.

Rund 80 österreichische Startups haben sich für die „GoSiliconValley“-Initiative 2019/20 der Außenwirtschaft Austria der WKÖ beworben. 16 davon wurden nun von einer US-Jury (Rick Rasmussen, UC Berkeley, Concordia Ventures; Elisabeth Fullerton, Angel & Social Impact Investor; Stefan Nagel, Round2Capital; Steve Austin, Founders Space) ausgewählt. Sie können nun bis zu drei Monate an einem Accelerator-Programm im Silicon Valley teilnehmen.

Das Wiener Kunst-Startup Artivive hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt analoge Kunstwerke mit einem Augmented-Reality-Tool, um eine digitale Dimension zu erweitern. „Wir wurden vom Global Incubator Network (GIN) empfohlen und haben uns in dem vierstufigen Prozess aus 600 Bewerbungen durchgesetzt“, erzählt Mitbegründer Codin Popescu im Gespräch mit Trending Topics. Georg Fürlinger vom Außenwirtschafts-Büro in San Francisco hat die Bewerbung begleitet und wird das Startup vor Ort unterstützen.

Art has been a relative latecomer to the digital revolution – at least where we’re referring to the traditional/classic end of the spectrum – people are used to associating the value of art to seeing it in person, hence the fact that museums and art galleries still rely on special exhibitions for a large share of their revenue.

Artist and explorer, Elsa Duault investigates notions of time, space, movement and the metaphysical – working with both paint and the digital space as her mediums of choice. Duault has activated the app, Artivive, where one can scan her work – both the actual artwork and any reprints of it – and be taken to a video of the artist creating in her studio.

Das Wiener Startup Artivive, dass sich auf Augmented Reality in der Kunstwelt spezialisiert hat, konnte seine Community am stärksten motivieren, ihre Stimmen abzugeben.

This is the first year in which the exhibition 100 Best Posters 17 offers an app, developed with the support of Artivive (Vienna) for iOS and Android. With this augmented reality feature, visitors can delve even deeper into the visual world of the winning posters. The app opens up a new cognitive dimension to viewing certain winning motifs.

„Wir haben schon ein paar Musiker. Zum Beispiel der Bernd Ammann in Wien. Der verwendet Artivive, um sein Album und Albumcover mit Augmented Reality zu erweitern, aber nicht nur. Sondern er hat auch eine Reihe an T-Shirts rausgebracht, die mit seinem Album verbunden sind. In seinem Album geht es um Space. Auch seine Musik ist von den Sternen inspiriert. Und auch auf dem Albumcover sieht man, dass man quasi ‚out of space‘ ist.“

Auf der Startup-Konferenz Pioneers, die dieses Jahr am 24. und 25. Mai in der Wiener Hofburg über die Bühne geht, ist eines der Highlights wieder die Startup-Challenge. Dafür wurden 500 Jungfirmen kostenlos zu de Event eingeladen, 50 davon haben es in die zweite Runde geschafft. Aus diesen 50 wiederum werden 8 im Finale am Festival gegeneinander antreten und im großen Hauptsaal vor Investoren ihre Pitches abliefern.

Artivive ist ein junges Unternehmen aus Wien. Diese App soll der Kunst eine neue Dimension eröffnen und sowohl Künstlern wie Galerien ermöglichen, analoge und digitale Kunst zu verbinden. Für Kunstschaffende ist das eine reizvolle Möglichkeit, mit den Betrachtern zu kommunizieren.

Gemälden Leben einhauchen? Manch einem Künstler gelingt das allein mit Pinsel oder Stift. Wenn das Ergebnis jedoch noch nicht lebendig genug ist, hilft bald Artivive. Die App nutzt die Augmented Reality (AR) und fügt so den Kunstwerken bewegliche Elemente hinzu.

Wien – Digitale Bildfehler kennt jeder von uns. Als Aussetzer oder in Form verschobener Bildteile äußern sie sich; wenn bei Videodateien etwas mit der Komprimierung nicht stimmt, erscheinen die Bilder verschwommen-zersetzt. Meist nervt das, weil man eigentlich ja gerade ein Foto oder ein Video sehen wollte.

Artivive is an AR tool that allows artists to create new dimensions of art by linking classical with digital art. The digital layer opens the doors to a whole new world of possibilities. They can take visitors on a journey in time and explain what lies behind, enhance the art with illustrations or show how the artworks were made.

Die 72 Fotos zu „Ana“, die Siegfried Klein geschossen hat, sind eine Wucht. Mittels einer Smartphone-App von Artivive können die Momentaufnahmen dieser Materialschlacht darüber hinaus animiert werden. Geschult an den exaltierten Posen Egon Schieles und den Gerümpelskulpturen des Nouveau Realisme erzeugte Brus ein Szenario kreativen Furors.

Die in der Albertina eingeführte App nennt sich "Artivive" und soll, so Schröder, mittelfristig den Museums-Audioguide ersetzen. Besucher richten ihr Smartphone auf ein Kunstwerk (derzeit sind 13 Exponate in der Schausammlung aufbereitet); die App erkennt das Bild und überblendet es mit animierten Clips und Hintergrund-Informationen.

Die App zählt Paul Signacs Punkte, lässt Joan Miros Vögel flattern und erzählt als Cartoon die Geschichte von Pablo Picassos schwieriger Ehe. Jeder Clip dauert nur wenige Sekunden und wird von einem Kurztext begleitet. Die Bedienung ist simpel: App herunterladen (die Albertina bietet kostenloses WLAN), öffnen und wie beim Fotografieren vor jene Bilder halten, die mit dem Artivive-Symbol gekennzeichnet sind.

Erlebbar macht diesen zusätzlichen Kunstgenuss die Gratis-App des Wiener Start-up "Artivive", die erstmals in einem europäischen Museum (vorerst) 13 Werke mittels Animationen, Videos und Akustik-Info in eine neue Dimension hebt. "Die App ist die Einstiegsdroge für die Kunst.

"Natürlich gibt es das Ideal von einem Museumsbesucher, der wie ein Kunstgeschichtestudent im ersten Semester hierherkommt, neugierig, bestens vorbereitet, auf der Suche nach Kontemplation. Die Realität ist aber eine andere", so Direktor Klaus Albrecht Schröder am Dienstag bei der Vorstellung einer neuen App, mithilfe derer in der Albertina nun Kunstwerke im digitalen Raum erweitert werden.

Unter den heimischen Kunst-Institutionen wagt die Albertina einen ersten Schritt: Sie kooperiert mit den Entwicklern der App Artivive, die real existierende Werke mit digitalen Bildern und Videos "anreichert". Dreizehn Werke wie Monets Seerosenteich, Degas‘ Zwei Tänzerinnen oder Picassos Frau mit grünem Hut sind seit kurzem dauerhaft in der Schausammlung mittels Augmented Reality zu entdecken, weitere Werke sind in Planung.

“We wanted to bring together science and art, so we thought it was a really good idea to showcase that, hey look, we can be artistic, but also of course because we're nerds, we can add this [augmented reality] component and make it come to life.”

Im Museumsbereich ist seit einiger Zeit der Trend zur Digitalisierung zu erkennen. Museen versuchen sich zu positionieren und vom Überangebot an Kulturveranstaltungen abzuheben. Daneben spielt auch der Erlebnischarakter eine größer werdende Rolle bei Ausstellungen. Artivive bietet hier eine unkomplizierte Lösung, da die Besucher lediglich ihr Smartphone oder Tablet mit in die Ausstellung nehmen müssen.
